About David
Hello.
My name is David Woodward, and I have been counselling, encouraging, pastoring and listening to people for over twenty-five years now. Understanding and empathy have come to my counselling having walked through some difficult times myself. My first wife died of breast cancer at 34 years old, leaving me with a two and a half year old daughter to raise as a single parent. Bereavement, depression, anxiety, anger and relationship issues have all, at one time or another, been part of my own walk.
Now, as a father of seven children (including five step-children), who are going through teenage years, I know some of the pain, intricacies and conflicts that family life can bring. Parenting, family, marriage and couple counselling are of special interest to me and I have gained valuable personal experience in this field. (See “Testimonials”).
I have a heart fo
r people – to nurture, to encourage and to believe in – and have a deep compassion for those undergoing emotional struggles. Having heard many things behind closed doors, very little surprises me now. My earnest desire is to help people find solutions for the problems they face. I would hope to be able to do the same for you. That is why I offer a free initial (20-30 mins) consultation so you can decide for yourself if you think I can help you.
As well as having my own private counselling practice in Kettering, Northants, in the U.K. for individuals, couples and families, I have worked as a G.P.’s counsellor at a local Doctors’ surgery and counsel prisoners at H.M.Prison Wellingborough. CRB checked, I spent many years working with troubled 16-25 year olds for a national charity organisation and I do family counselling for Northamptonshire Social Services.
As an ‘Integrative’ Counsellor, I counsel from both Person-Centred and Psychodynamic approaches and use Cognitive Behaviourial Theraphy where necessary. I also have an in-depth knowledge of the Myers-Briggs Psychometric Profile that can be used to assess character/personality types (particularly helpful when couple counselling). I am fully insured, regularly supervised and an Accredited Member of the professional body, The National Counselling Society and hold the AQA Advanced Diploma in Counselling. I also have an Honours degree in Modern History and International Relations.
I can offer face t
o face, telephone and online counselling. In my counselling room my aim is to provide a caring environment where people can feel comfortable about discussing and sharing personal matters in a confidential and safe place. Online counselling (Skype counselling) allows me to counsel people who live further afield and overseas or people who prefer to be counselled from the convenience of their own home.
